LM | Quantum engineering

Quantum sciences and technologies undoubtedly represent the frontier of the evolution of knowledge for physics and engineering applications, a new and totally pervasive technological revolution that will affect every aspect of our life, from communications to calculation, from finance to life sciences, from security to energy.

With the master degree programme in Quantum Engineering you will become an engineer able to operate in the context of applications of quantum sciences and technologies, with particular reference to three fundamental engineering sectors: computing, communication and sensing.

The course will offer you a solid multidisciplinary background and will allow you to enter high-profile research contexts, but, above all, to use quantum technologies in an innovative and transversal way in engineering applications (in manufacturing, services, life sciences and security).

The course therefore trains professional profiles such as: technologist or process engineer for the manufacture of quantum and hybrid devices, designer of quantum devices, circuits and systems for communications and sensors, developer of machine learning algorithms, expert in high-performance simulations (for pharmaceuticals, the development of new proteins, the management of communication networks, transport, energy distribution, ...), IT security and protected communications expert, developer of economic-financial solutions based on the use of quantum computers, ...

If you wish, the master degree course in Quantum Engineering also offers the opportunity to keep on training through Masters, Specialization Schools and Research Doctorates, both nationally and internationally, thanks to the teaching experience entirely in English and the opportunity to work in laboratories, research centers and international companies through both laboratory and thesis activities.

Politecnico di Torino acquires a Quantum Computer

October 15, 2024

Politecnico di Torino consolidates its strategy in the Quantum area through co-investment in a five-qubit quantum system, reinforcing its strategy of sharing knowledge and infrastructure with partners in the research and technology transfer chain, from the LINKS Foundation to INRIM. At the same time, work continues on the creation of the university's Digital Revolution House, which will host all initiatives on the digital transition.

PoliTo, together with its partners, officially joins that group of European technological universities that are heavily investing in quantum technologies, with infrastructure available to its mission of high-level education and to the territory to foster innovation in the industrial, financial and public administration sectors. The quantum computer acquired from IQM Quantum Computers, a global leader in the construction of quantum computers, will become operational by spring 2025.

Testimonials

“The launch of new master degree programmes to prepare quantum computing experts is a necessity to provide research and businesses with the appropriate skills to be able to exploit such technology. A Country that aspires to innovation for growth and development cannot neglect quantum computing. The new programme is of great interest to companies that want to be innovative and competitive, important for young people who want to acquire the skills to face the jobs of the future, of great value for the growth and development of our country.”

Quantum technologies today are the protagonists of a great transformation in the world and in Europe, based on the three quantum pillars of sensors, communication and computing. We observe a massive transfer from public and private research laboratories to application in industrial production and in society, a dynamic in which Europe invests a great deal, for example in metrology or quantum communication. The training of engineers in Italy becomes essential to ensure excellence in research for our country and that our companies have personnel trained to create innovation and work in this area.
